I love being a therapist, getting to know my patients and their stories, learning with them what they need, how I can help, how I can bear witness and be present in ways they may need. I am a psychiatrist and prescribe medication when appropriate. I do not see medication as a destination but, rather, as one of many tools. I sometimes help patients decrease the doses of their medication or come off medications completely. This is not an endeavor to be taken lightly, and meeting regularly helps ensure that medication changes can be done safely, with enough time to talk about potential risks and benefits, as well as the meaning medication may have.
